She started her career in Parkersburg, West Virginia/Marietta, Ohio, as anchor and producer of the 5:00 show at WTAP. After a year, she was promoted to evening anchor and 11:00 producer. WTAP was the very best place to start her journalism career. During her time there, she learned to shoot and edit videos, report, anchor, and produce.
She was also very involved with the 2004 presidential election between Former President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry. She also got the chance to interview, then-Democratic Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards. During her time there, she won several Associated Press awards for anchoring and reporting.
She also worked with WTAP for more than two years and then moved here to Knoxville to become a weekend anchor and reporter for WBIR. After a few months, Ham became the morning anchor on 10News Today. Abby also reported on various stories, like the fire at the McClung Warehouses.
In 2007, she had the opportunity to anchor the morning newscast in Cleveland, Ohio. During her time, she was sad to leave, she is proud of the chance at WKYC. While in Cleveland, she got to report on the 2008 presidential election, more specifically the Cleveland debate between 2008 Democratic Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Abby also volunteered with special organizations, like the JDRF, The Ronald McDonald House, and Dress for Success.
In 2009, WBIR was kind enough to give her old job back and again she sit at the anchor desk for 10News Today.
Her anchor duties have expanded a bit. In 2010, we began a 4:30 am newscast and in 2011 we partnered with Fox 43 to launch a two-hour morning show, Mornings with Fox 43 from 7-9. Abby also produces Your Stories, a weekly feature report on the interesting people and places in East Tennessee. She has also been involved with Buddy’s Race Against Cancer every year to benefit the Thompson Cancer Survival Center and loves volunteering for other local charitable organizations.
