Tyler Perry developed, executive produced, wrote, and directed The Haves and the Have Nots, an American crime drama and soap opera. The series’ premise is based on Perry’s play of the same name from 2011. The series launched on the Oprah Winfrey Network on May 28, 2013.

The series follows three families in Savannah, Georgia as they coexist: the wealthy, influential, and well-known Cryer and Harrington families, as well as the poor and penniless Young family. Hanna, a single mother who works as the Cryer family’s maid and also acts as Katheryn’s greatest friend and confidante, is the head of the Young household. Celine Gonzales, another Cryer family maid, is included among The Have Nots. In terms of social status, economy, and lifestyle, the Young family and the Cryer and Harrington families lead polar opposite lives.

“This is one of the only shows on television with a diverse cast that looks like America: Black, White, Latino, straight, gay, affluent, and poor,” Robinson said when asked about her new part on the show in late June 2013.
