Brett was a partner the Kirkland & Ellis where he did his private practice 1997-2001. Joined President George W. Bush’s associate counsel from 2001 to 2003. He succeeded Harriet Miers to serve as Assistant to the President and White House staff secretary from 2003 until 2006.
