He earned his degree in meteorology from the state of Mississippi. Since 1971, Dale has been involved in broadcasting in the Upstate, especially on the radio. He has worked for many stations, including WFBC, WESC, WLFJ, and WMYI, in the Greenville market.

Until entering the newsroom full-time in 1994, he worked for WYFF News 4 as a weather reporter on weekends. Dale keeps busy with other voice recording jobs and sports announcements in his spare time. He is the Clemson Tigers football and basketball public address announcer. He is a popular speaker and narrator and is also invited to participate in local church, school, and community group programs.

Gilbert is currently working at WYFF where he works alongside other famous WYFF anchors and reporters.
