Besides being a general assignment reporter, he has been an integral part of Eyewitness News coverage of several stories, including the November 2013 tornado that devastated Washington, IL., the historic 2011 Chicago blizzard, the Chicago Cubs 2016 World Series championship, and the 2013 Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup playoff run. Eric became part of ABC 7’s Emmy Award-winning coverage of two major stories: the release of video of the police-involved shooting of Laquan McDonald and the death of Fox Lake police lieutenant Joe Gliniewicz in 2015.
He joined ABC 7 Chicago with a wealth of experience and an outstanding reputation as an ABC News correspondent for “World News,” “Nightline,” and “Good Morning America,” and was as well a regular fill-in anchor for early morning programs “World News Now” and “America This Morning.”
While he was working with ABC News, Eric covered several major stories including the 2008 Northern Illinois University shooting, 2007 Minneapolis bridge collapse, the Michael Jackson criminal trial in California, and Terri Schiavo legal battle in Florida. He organized live reports from Louisiana during and after Hurricane Katrina made landfall in 2005. Eric classified reports from Chicago’s Grant Park, the site of President Obama’s victory speech on election night in 2008.
Before joining ABC News in 2003, he was working as a correspondent for CNN. From 1998 to 2000, he was based in Atlanta and later moved to Los Angeles from 2000 to 2003. While at CNN, he reported on several high-profile stories, including the Shuttle Columbia disaster, the Academy Awards, the Elian Gonzalez custody fight, and the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping case.
