María Elena Salinas is the most known Hispanic Female journalist known in the United State. She began her career as a reporter, anchor, and public affairs host for KMEX-TV in Los Angles. The New York times named Elena as the Voice of Hispanic America. Salinas has been working for more than three decades in the U.S. and in 18 Latin American countries.

In 1981 Elena joined KMEX-TV this was the beginning of her career. In 1987, she became the anchor of Noticiero Univision, a nationwide Spanish-language news program. She has conducted interviews with former US Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, as well as Manuel Noriega, the former military ruler of Panama, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, and Subcomandante Marcos, the spokesman for the Zapatista Army of National Liberation. Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, and Gloria Estefan are among the celebrities she has interviewed.
In 2004, she co-hosted the first bilingual national Democratic presidential candidate discussion on Hispanic concerns, and in 2007, she co-hosted the first Democratic and Republican presidential candidate forums in Spanish on Univision.
On Investigation Discovery, she started an English-language crime show called The Real Story with Maria Elena Salinas in 2017. She authored a weekly syndicated column in English and Spanish for ten years, from 2001 to 2011.
Univision started on August 3, 2017, that Salinas would be departing her position as co-anchor of Noticiero Univisión at the end of the year. Salinas wrote in a Facebook post that she wants to be an independent news producer and that she is not interested in working for a corporation.
