Minor spent ten years as the Volusia County bureau chief at WKMG-TV, Local 6, in Orlando, where he was responsible for covering news in 16 cities on a daily basis.
Minor has vast live shooting expertise as well as anchoring skills, having presented news footage to both a local and national audience. But in 2006, while covering a trial in St. Augustine, he met Melanie Lawson, and his life changed forever. Lawson, who hosts WJXT’s “The Morning Show,” and Tarik started dating, fell in love, and married in the fall of 2009. They currently collaborate in the same office.
Minor also owns a video production company and hopes to make a documentary in the future. His journalistic career began as a production assistant at NBC 4 in Washington, D.C. He began his career as a reporter in Alexandria, Louisiana, and later went to Baton Rouge before settling in Florida.
WJXT, sometimes known as virtual channel 4, is an independent television station based in Jacksonville, Florida. Graham Media Group, a subsidiary of Graham Holdings Company based in Chicago, owns the station as part of a duopoly alongside CW affiliate WCWJ. The two stations share studios at 4 Broadcast Place in Jacksonville, on the south bank of the St. Johns River; WJXT’s transmitter is on the north bank.
