Anita was born in New York City, to an Armenian American mother and an Eastern European father who died when she was a child. Vogel’s mother, who was born in New York, moved the family to California when she was two years old.

She also covered the 2006 Mexican presidential elections from Mexico City and was on the ground in New Orleans, LA when Hurricane Katrina hit the region, spending the next two weeks chronicling the devastation.
