Christiane Maria Heide is a British-Iranian journalist and television host. She is the chief international Anchor for CNN. She hosts a nightly interview program Amanpour and Amanpour & Company on PBS. Mario joined CNN in 1983. She has also made screen and media appearances. Amanpour is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Committee to Protect Journalists, as well as the Center for Public Integrity, the International Women’s Media Foundation, and the Institute for War and Peace Reporting’s board of directors. She has been a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Freedom of Expression and Journalist Safety since April 2015.

Amanpour was hired by CNN in 1983 as an entry-level desk assistant. Her first major assignment was to cover the Iran-Iraq war. In 1986 reported on the fall of European communism in Eastern Europe. 1989 in Frankfurt she reported on the democratic revolution. By 1990 she served as a correspondent for CNN’s New York bureau.
Her coverage of the Persian Gulf War in 1990 drew widespread attention while also propelling CNN to new heights of news coverage. She gained a reputation for being fearless during the Gulf and Bosnian wars and for reporting from conflict areas. Amanpour has been CNN’s chief international correspondent from 1992-2010.
She joined ABC News in 2010 where she anchored This Week. She later returned to CNN in 2012 while she continued at ABC News as Global affairs anchor. In May 2018 Amanpour replaced Charlie Rose on PBS and her new program Amanpour & Company premiered on PBS In September 2018.
