Janet Montgomery is an English actress renown for her role as Ames in the second season of Human Target (2010–11), as well as her involvement in the 2009 straight-to-DVD film The Hills Run Red. Montgomery studied dance at the Stella Mann College of Performing Arts in Bedford but decided to pursue acting instead of dancing professionally. Obtaining acting representation was initially difficult due to her lack of drama school expertise. Her success came after she co-wrote and produced a play with her buddy Gethin Anthony.
She made her television debut in 2008 as Tony Stonem’s love interest in an episode of the teen drama Skins. She also appeared in the short film Flushed and the TV movie Dis/Connected.
She starred in two straight-to-DVD horror-genre productions made in Sofia, Bulgaria the following year – The Hills Run Red and the climax of the original Wrong Turn trilogy, Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead – and in the Lifetime film Accused at 17 as Fallyn Werner, a teenage killer.
She made her theatrical debut in 2010 with the roles of Giselle in the independent horror film Dead Cert and Madeline in the Academy Award-nominated psychological thriller Black Swan, in which she played a Little Swan to Natalie Portman’s Oscar-winning depiction of the Black Swan.
She also signed on to play Paul Rudd’s love interest in Our Idiot Brother the same year. Producers worked around her schedule on Entourage and flew her to New York to begin filming after hearing her audition tape in Los Angeles. Montgomery was cast as Ambrosia the stripper in the first episode of the second season of The League, a critically acclaimed semi-improvised program about American football, while working on Entourage.
Montgomery first appeared in Series 4 Episode 11 of Merlin in December 2011, as Princess Mithian, King Arthur’s love interest, and later returned in Series 5 Episode 4.
Montgomery starred as the lead in the CBS television series Made in Jersey in 2012. After only two episodes, the show was cancelled. On December 22, 2012, two new episodes aired. Through an audition tape she sent to casting director Andy Pryor for the role of Sarah in Dancing on the Edge, Montgomery caught the notice of Stephen Poliakoff.The five-part miniseries premiered on BBC Two on February 4, 2013.
She also appeared in BBC Four’s Spies of Warsaw alongside David Tennant. In the unaired ABC pilot Gothica, she played Grace Van Helsing, “the wayward daughter who returns to head the family newspaper.” Her love interest, Dorian Gray, was performed by actor Chris Egan.
