Jenn Schanz is an American news anchor. He joined the 7 Action News team in February 2019. Initially from Grand Rapids, she is thrilled to be back in her home state. Jenn graduate from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. Before joining WXYZ she reported in Lincoln, Neb and Buffalo, N.Y. While in Buffalo, Jenn served as both a general assignment and investigative reporter, focusing on stories related to the opioid crisis, medical marijuana as well as clergy sex abuse. Jenn is the recipient of the Nebraska Broadcasters Association Gold Award, and was also nominated for an Emmy for her part in News 4’s “Break Out” special; covering the June 2015 manhunt of escaped prisoners Richard Matt as well as David Sweat from an upstate NY correctional facility. Through her work on “Inside The Epidemic,” which is a news special chronicling western New York’s ongoing struggle with opioid abuse she received a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award. “Inside the Epidemic” she also won a first place New York Associated Press award in the Documentary Category. Beside journalism, Jenn also has a real passion for traveling. She’s visited six continents as well as lived in Korea for a short time after college. Jenn resides in Detroit and loves exploring new restaurants and different neighborhoods in her spare time.
