In most of the station’s nightly newscasts, Nelsen can be spotted forecasting weather. That are shown at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 8 p.m., 9 p.m., 10 p.m., or 11 p.m. We all know what it means to be a “weather nerd,” and he is proud of it! He was one of those kids who was always late with his homework because he was staring out the window.

In the early 1990s, he applied for many TV jobs right out of college, but they all told him he “looked like a teenager.” Instead, Nelsen took a job with a tiny local firm that forecasts wind in the Columbia River Gorge for a few months. He was employed by KOIN-TV at the age of 24 and later transferred to FOX 12 in 2000.
