He became interested in weather during his childhood days as he was afraid of thunderstorms but loved watching Craig James and Bill Steffen the two weather legends of West Michigan but little did he know that he would one day work with them.
He worked as an intern at the other at WNEM-TV in Saginaw, and with the National Weather Service office in Muskegon.
He was able to secure his first job at WPBN-TV/WTOM-TV in Traverse City, Michigan where he served as a weekday morning meteorologist from 1996 to 1998. During his leisure time, he enjoys helping with his kids’ various sports activities, golfing, and weightlifting. In addition, he enjoys visiting car shows with his son.
Kirkwood is currently working at WOOD-TV where he works alongside other famous WOOD-TV anchors and reporters.
