North Melbourne Football Club selected Hibberd with pick 33 in the 2015 national draft. He made his Etihad Stadium debut against West Coast in the first round of the 2017 season. North Melbourne delisted him at the end of the 2018 AFL season.
He spent the 2019 season with Williamstown of the Victorian Football League, where he was named to the VFL Team of the Year and led the club in J.J. Liston Trophy voting. In the 2019 Rookie draft, he was selected by the Essendon Football Club. In 2020, he appeared in five games for Essendon until being delisted in September. In 2021, he returned to Williamstown in the number two jersey.
