Stacy anchored the evening newscasts for six years on WDAF-TV in Kansas City, Missouri, before joining KDKA-TV as a reporter and anchor in Pittsburgh in July 1983.
When working at the station, in 1984, 1988, and 1996 he dealt in-depth with political conventions. As a news anchorman, Smith has won multiple awards. Among these are a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award, along with KDKA’s Patrice King Brown, for their coverage of the US Air Flight 427 crash in 1994 near Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.
