McHugh joined Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in La Cañada Flintridge, California, graduating in the year 2004 where she studied contemporary dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts from 2004-2006. Caitlin was married to restaurateur Massimo Lusardi and the couple wedded on 3 June 2011. However, they divorced in 2014 and later she reported her engagement to actor John Stamos after a year of dating on 23 October 2017. They first met when they both guest-starred on an episode of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in the year 2011, however, they didn’t begin dating until several years later.
